Art & Story Alive! Episode 36

Mark is away for this one, so I’m grateful to be joined by guest co-hosts Kevin Cross, Krishna Sadasivam, and Ryan Dow!
This week we tackle a topic submitted by Kaiki: How does a cartoonist balance the time spent on artistic improvement vs. the all-important social networking? We discuss the various ways to do double-duty when we can, including participating in a comics talkcast (like Javiland, The Sequential Artists’ Pub, The Mini-Comics Dump Truck, or The Amateur Hour). Kevin suggests using things like Twitter as a “coffee break” between self-imposed milestones in the workday. Krishna suggests using software like Think to help one keep focus when working, instead of checking the Twitter feed and email every five minutes.
We then move on to a topic submitted by Danny Burleson: How does one manage the inevitable development of an artistic style? As you work on a comic, your character designs are bound to change. Should they? How important is artistic consistency? Can changing your style work against your work?
We’re joined in the chat by Dungeon Warden, Largopredator, Eben07, Frumph, Javier Hernandez, Jim Lujan, Scott & Audra of nemu-nemu, Haikubirdie, Gamegeezer, Diana Nock, Danny Burleson, and Largopredator. If I forgot anyone, or if I neglected to link to your website, please email me, and I’ll add it to the show notes.
More information on how you can participate every Monday at 5 p.m. EST here.
Also – Be sure to check out PC Weenies on Tuesday, 21 October, at 3 p.m. EST to join in on the 10th Anniversary celebration! Congratulations to Krishna!
